Entrepreneur on the side, how do you start a new business on the side?

Perhaps you are at a stage in your life where you are considering starting your own business. You have dreams and hopes that you leave on the bed on the way to your daily work that you may or may not like. But as the nights come, the ideas that were just shadows of your thoughts during the day become a parallel universe that opens its doors as soon as your eyelids close.
In order to take the step to become a part-time entrepreneur, we have listed three important points

  1.  Define what you want to do:

When we think about what we are good at, we tend to underestimate our abilities. You may take things for granted or see them as uncompetitive. Often these are the same skills that you acquired for one of your employers and that they used to make money! So why wouldn’t you be able to use the same skills to make money for yourself too?

You just have to make sure that there is no conflict of interest with your current employer.

If you still don’t know what you’re good at, ask the people closest to you. You may be amazed at what they think of your skills!

  2.  How to get out of your comfort zone:

    2.1. Your why:

The problem with a side job as an entrepreneur is that you don’t find the motivation to leave your comfort zone. The question you have to ask yourself is: Why do you want to start your own business part-time? If the answer to this question is strong enough, it will push you to take the first step and step out of your comfort zone.

    2.2. Anxiety or Stress:

After the why, you need a trigger to get out of your comfort zone. This trigger shouldn’t be too weak, so that it doesn’t have enough energy to push you out of your comfort zone, and not too strong, so that it saturates you and makes you freeze in panic. The Yerkes-Dodson law (Yerkes & Dodson, 1907) illustrates this phenomenon very well. In this study, the mice studied became more motivated when they received progressively stronger electric shocks, but only up to a certain limit. After this limit, mice began to hide rather than perform.

This means that you should not try too hard until you are overwhelmed, but also not too little so as not to motivate yourself enough. Perhaps quitting your job before you have some security is too much of a trigger, while starting investments in your own home is enough to push you out of your comfort zone.
It’s also important to take small steps at a steady pace, rather than large steps at a random pace.

3. Time management :

If you decide to do a part-time job, it is very important that you manage your time well, as you will have another task that will take up your time in addition to your daily work. These three steps will help you prioritize your time:

3.1. Fixed and non-negotiable working hours

: These don’t have to be every day, you can work once a week for two or three hours. Most importantly, these times are non-negotiable and permanent.

3.2. Deadlines:

Working deadlines are not only good for getting things done quickly, but above all to avoid thinking too much about your tasks and therefore not doing them at all.

3.3.Patience:

Realize that most of your time at the beginning will be spent on acquiring customers and not on making sales. The good news in the case of part-time entrepreneurship is that you already have a source of income, so you don’t have to worry too much about the financial side.
